The Top Outdoor Sporting Events to Put in Your 2022 Diary

As we gear up for the UK’s best summer outdoor event that the sports and grounds industry has ever seem, we take a look at some of the most exciting outdoor sporting events in 2022

The cancellation of so many great sporting events over the last two years due to the pandemic and public health concerns has been a great disappointment to sports fans across the globe. As we begin the new year, it is looking hopeful that we will have a year full of exciting and much anticipated national and international games and matches to look forward to.

Preparation for SAGE 2022 is in full swing. Our second ever event will be taking place at The Three Counties Showground in Malvern from the 6th to the 7th of July 2022. As we gear up for the UK’s best summer outdoor event that the sports and grounds industry has ever seem, we look at some of the most exciting outdoor sporting events in 2022, including the return of The Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.

 

Six Nations Rugby Championship

There are several key fixtures in the Six Nations Championship in 2022, including the following fixtures:

Scotland vs England (5 Feb)- taking place in BT Murray Stadium, Edinburgh.

England vs Wales (26 Feb) – taking place in Twickenham Stadium, London.

England vs Ireland (12 March) – taking place in Twickenham Stadium, London.

Wales vs Italy (19 March) – taking place in Principality Stadium, Cardiff.

 

EFL Carabao Cup Final (27 February)

There will be a new winner of the EFL Carabao Cup this year, after Manchester City has dominated the competition for the last four seasons. This year Chelsea will play the winner of the Liverpool vs Arsenal semi-final tie, with the final taking place at Wembley on Sunday 27 February.

 

Cheltenham Festival (15 – 18 March)

One of the biggest events of the UK horse racing calendar, Cheltenham Festival takes place from 15 – 18 March at Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire.

 

FA Cup Final (14 May)

The final of the FA Cup will take place on 14 May 2022 at Wembley Stadium in London. Leicester City are the current holders, but they face some stiff competition if they are going to defend their trophy.

 

Wimbledon Championships (27 June – 10 July)

Novak Djokovic and Ashleigh Barty were the champions in 2021 and will be hoping to return to the All-England Lawn Tennis Club to retain their Wimbledon titles from 27 June to 10 July.

 

UEFA Women’s Euros (6 – 31 July)

The Women’s Euros football competition will be hosted in England this year, with England being amongst the favourites to win one of the ultimate challenges in female sports 2022. The competition takes place between 6 July and 31 July, with the final taking place at Wembley Stadium.

 

F1 British Grand Prix (1 – 3 July)

Motorsports fans will be excited to attend the British Grand Prix at Silverstone to cheer on Lewis Hamilton or one of his rivals from 1 – 3 July.

 

The Open Championship (10 – 17 July)

This year marks the 150th year of the Open Championship, which will take place at St Andrews from 10 – 17 July.

 

Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games (28 July – 8 August)

This year’s Commonwealth Games is being hosted in Birmingham from 28 July to 8 August, with the main venue being Alexander Stadium.

 

Women’s Open (4 – 7 August)

The best women golfers in the world will be heading to Scotland for the Open at Muirfield. from 4 – 7 August.

 

Rugby League Super League Grand Final (24 September)

Rugby fans will be looking forward to the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on 24 September.

 

London Marathon (2 October)

The world-renowned London Marathon returns for 2022, where runners will experience the excitement of the race while winding through the famous London landmarks.

 

Rugby League World Cup (15 October to 19 November)

With the event being postponed in 2021, rugby league fans will be really looking forward to this event going ahead at a mix of stadiums in England including Riverside Stadium in Tees Valley, Kingston Park, Newcastle and MKM stadium in Hull.
